Sgraffito Art
Lately we have been working on Scraffito art.
To make these, we had to find an picture online to inspire us, sketch it onto an A4 paper, colour the whole sheet of paper using different colour pastels, paint over it using tempera, use a skewer to sketch out a design on it, then afterwards we sealed it all.

The Theorem of Pythagoras
The
Theorem of Pythagoras
Walt: understand the theorem of Pythagoras and show our thinking.
- What is a ‘theorem’? The Pythagorean Theorem is that in a right triangle, the sum of the squares of the two right-angle sides will always be the same as the square of the hypotenuse (the long side). A2 + B2 = C2.
- Who was Pythagoras? Pythagoras of Samos was an Ionian Greek philosopher, mathematician, and has been credited as the founder of the movement called Pythagoreanism.
- What did he do for a job? Some people say he never had a job. But he was a mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher
- What is the importance of his theorem? So you can calculate the sides of a triangle
- Explain where it can be used. Builders use to calculate where they have to pour concrete
- Prove the theorem with two diagrams showing

Back to Front poem
Today I made this poem:
Friends/Enemies
She is my best friend and will be forever
And you will never in my whole entire life hear me say
She is the worst person and I hate her
If you look closely
She tries to help me
So, what if
She disagrees with me
She lies to me
Well that’s wrong the truth is
Shes there for me when I'm down
We try to spend any minute we can together
Dont you ever tell me
We weren't made for each other
We will always be enemies
Now thats a big lie
We are best friends forever
(Now read it from the bottom to the top)

The Smart Device
In class we had to Invent something that would be useful in the world Caitlin and I decided to do the smart desk this is a Hologram Laptop . Here is the persuasive writing I did about the Smart Desk
The Smart Device
Are you sick of having to lug around a big heavy computer/laptop in your bag to and from school or work ?, Well we have solution for you. It is called a The Smart Device - a light, much smaller, faster device which is better for pretty much better for everyone
Have you ever had those moments when you think “I wish they had invented this, it would be really useful”? Well we think this is one of these situations. The Smart Device is lighter, which it better for those people who either have to bike or walk to and from school/work. It's also much smaller, it is pocket-sized so you can just put it in you pocket so you dont have to drag a heavy bag around all day. People don't want to carry around a heavy bag all day when you can just put this in your pocket. And dont worry if it falls out of your pocket, it is unbreakable, so this is good for those clumsy people who are always dropping things and having to spend lots of money on computers. No more cracked screens or broken keyboards, Hologram computers are unbreakable.
This computer is one of the most efficient computers, It is faster which also has the servers of apple and Windows. People probably think if it’s faster that means it will use more power, but this is the exact opposite which is better for our environment. The battery has all the latest battery features in one pocket-sized, light button. As well as using less power, it is fast charging, much faster than a laptop nowadays. Today a computer takes around four hours to charge, well this one takes a quarter of that time. It only takes one hour. But not only that, it lasts for two whole days.
Before you buy, it you would probably want to know how it works. Well the size is just a little bit smaller than your the palm of your hand. On the top it has the on and off button and on the side is the lens which the hologram comes out of. On the other side it has the charger hole, so when you want to use it you just go to a flat surface press the on button then boom your hologram is there. As we said it is the fastest computer. This computer will appeal to children, adults, workers ... pretty much anyone. I bet you in one year this will be the new thing like IPads are today - everyone will want one.
And as we said before this computer is Efficient, Portable, Fast and better for our Environment. So all together it is the best computer of all and in a couple of years time there will be no more ordinary computers. It will only be the smart device the one and only Hologram computer.

NZ Movers and Shakers
For Inquiry and Writing We had to write about a New Zealand Inventor I write about the Inventor Henry Wigley who Invented the Ski Boat :
Henry Rodolph Wigley
Henry Rodolph Wigley a New Zealander also the inventor of the ski plane with retractable skis as well as being the first person successfully land the plane after a couple of tries but he did it.
Henry Rodolph Wigley was born on the 2nd of February 1913 in Christchurch, New Zealand. His parents Jessie Christie Grant and his Father Rodolph Wigley .When he was a teenager he started pilot training and joined RNZAF (Royal New Zealand Air Force) at the outbreak of World War, he helped out by being a pilot. Their family were innovators, entrepreneurs and pioneers of tourism in New Zealand. His father, Rodolph formed one of the first commercial aviation companies in New Zealand. He was the first person to drive a motor vehicle to Mt Cook and he helped introduce skiing into the South Island, he was also the Captain of the New Zealand ski team in 1936-1937.
On september the 22nd, Henry Wigley was the first person to make a grass - snow flight with his plane which he named Auster. The world's first plane with retractable skis, Wigley spent many years perfecting the skis before his flight from Mount Cook village to Tasman Glacier. On his second approach Timaru Herald reporter Doug Drake said’ the pioneering aircraft made a perfect landing, but then when he was taking off again the snows drag was bigger than he expected and the plane struggled to reach 72 kmph. But then it hit a bump which tossed it upwards long enough you could call it airbourne. Wigley repeated that landing two more times that day, then within a year later the mount cook Company ski plane business was up and running. When his father died he took over his company (Mount cook Tourism ) and then used the ski plane as a taxi, up the mountain and back. The plane become a key symbol of the Mt Cook tourism.
His Ski plane was the Auster ZK Box, a four seater light aircraft which use to be on the ceiling of Queenstown airport but now on display at the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre Museum . Mount Cook Ski plane and helicopters are still up and running today . Also today as well as a ski plane there is also a seaplane which was actually invented before the ski plane it was invented in March the 28th 1910 by Henri Fabre. Which is sort of the same as ski plane except instead of landing on snow it lands on the water. Some people don't think ski planes as much but in the United states it is a popular sport .
So in the future if anyone wants to Invent or Innovate something, I think that Henry Wigley would be a great person to be Inspired by. And if you come down in a Crash then keep on trying until you land right .

Dear Diary
I have been here in Gallipoli for 3 days now, Its been a fine the last couple of Days. I have heard the Front line is scary so I hope I dont have to go in the frontline for a while The food is disgusting its just plain but I Guess I will have get use to it, It stinks around here in the Trenches. I have a feeling there is a storm on its way there are a couple of spits hopefully it will just bypass here. I am sort of don't want to be here now but I'm doing it for my Country. Its really loud around here I'm probably going to be partly death when I come home, Lots of gun shots and Bombs surrounding. Hope I get some sleep with this Noise Its starting to get dark better try get some sleep Write Tomorrow
Day 4
April 29th 1915
Dear Diaru
Im in pain at the moment. They sent me to the Frontline to Replace the the soldiers who have either got really badly injured or have gone to a better place I was doing fine for the first couple of hours but then heard one big Gun shot before I knew it I was in agony lying on the ground. All I could see was Blood I must of not been lying down enough just one little mistake and you could be gone I'm just lucky that it was In my leg not my heart or Head They carried me back to the trench to get some. Im now lying down in the Trench with a Temporary old rag as a Bandage. They said It was infected and I would have to go the mini hospital on the Island of Lemnos where the Nurses will Treat it . Its really starting to stink in here with all the dead bodies in a pile while people try and bury them and now the rats have came . I think turkey is dealing with the same problems Im going over to the Island of Lemnos tonight when it's dark so they don't see us. Ill try to write tomorrow.
Day 5
April 30th 1915
DearDiary
Well we made it over here to the Island of lemnos its peace full around here no turkeys to be seen The nurse treated but Im still in a lot of pain she said it might not be a couple of weeks until I have fully recovered we will just have to wait and see what happens next. Its pretty busy over here but its nice to have a break from all the the shooting it seems to me that I have been here for weeks but I have only been here for 5 days now You can hear the sound of a faint bomb every so often. I wonder how they are coping I hope this war would be over I don't get the point of it. I just got some more news I will be back helping out or countries in a couple of days because its getting busy at the hospitals and they say I will be Fine. I wonder how the Turks are doing If they are running low on Resources. I miss all my Family but I know they will be proud of me.

Guided Writing
Here is my original piece of writing on the theme of 'Dulce Et Decorum Est' By Wilfred Owen
THE WAR
Can't even stand up properly Trying to drag of heavy wet boots through the mud carrying all our gear. Feeling like my Eyelids have weights on them. With all our smiles have disappeared
Trying to get away from the Frontline Tripping over myself Crawling on our Ground trying to get back I feel Death my Ears are throbbing with pain from all the noise. Heart still pounding from all the gunshots surrounding.
Can't even think right. I don't think anyone else can as well looking around see people with cuts bruises, People with one Boot looking as if they’re drunk wobbling around . Its painful just walking I feel like snail. Cant even hear the Bomb shells that are surrounding but try to run if we do. Heaps of people are just dying of exhaustion Low on Water and food. Wish I was home
Everything gone Blank with Gas Surrounding Trying to shout with my voice mainly all gone ‘‘Gas Hurry Get out Quick Run !’’ Over and Over Until My voice was all gone
With the rest of my energy I drop to the ground dig through my bag I find my Gas mask I secure it on but while I was doing that all I could here was the screech and scream of the man beside to slow to find to get his gas mask and the gas getting into his lungs. We had been Training for this I thought to myself
It feels like we are surrounded by thick green clouds. Can't see anyone as we try to scramble out
Seeing my Conrad running toward me, coughing badly, Is making me feel sick.Thinking that he has got some gas In his lung and hes going to die
I helped carry a man to the wagon, he was slowly dieing I could tell he was shaking with his eyes Blood dripping everywhere I shock I feel really sorry It makes me feel bad for all those who are trying to help but then die. I put him up on the wagon with all the others that a suffering. Imagine yourself carrying a dying man to a wagon feeling helpless.
Also Imagine yourself walking By the wagon seeing your friends dying with every Jolt, Bump or a stone in the road the wagon goes over. Forces Blood up from there lungs which slowly turns into mucus that stops them from breathing and the Dying blood every where In the the wagon. Hearing them all suffer
I never knew that it was going to be like this I thought it was going to be very different. Its not fun at all watching your friends Die in front of you. The Noise of the gun shots and Bombs having to leave others behind. Plain Boring food, Limited water After hearing this I don't think you would want to do it for you country.

Camp Recount Writing
My Camp Recount Writing
Out on the grass in the Burning sun Its was our turn to do Archery Soft people from the last group were telling me how fun it was. It was my first time doing Archery soft, Walking over I saw all the Bows and Arrows Lying on the Ground, We all sat down and listened to the Instructor showing us how to Hold a Bow and Shoot an arrow
Finally it was our Turn we got in groups and sat by a Bow. We each had a go. Our aim was to bit the Balls. When it was my Turn I stood up lined the Bow up with the Ball pulled it back and then Fire. It didn't go near the ball. But I tried again but on shot number 2 I was so close I hitt the Tin can instead.
After we learnt how to shot the Bows it was Time to play some games. We each got into Teams and Lined up In our team there was Jess, Sam, Lars, Gus and I (Sarah) . We were team number 2, The aim of the game was to hit all 5 balls of the stand and Try and get the other players out by hitting them. We won our first 3 games which meant we had to face the Parents. We put our masks on and ran to the back line and then the instructor said Go we were of hiding behind the barriers trying to not get hit and then trying to hit them. They had five minutes until game was over by the end of the game they were winning by one point. We thought they were going to win but we weren't going to give up. But then just with a couple of seconds at the end we hit one of them. It was a Draw !

THE BUG MAN
Last Friday Ruud Kleinpaste aka the Bug Man. He came in because last last year a group of people from our school went in a competition called Tremendous where they design on a peace of area of the school they want to improve on in our school they wanted to build an out door class room and a little board walk by the ditch near the play ground and the won the competition so they won some money and Ruud came in to talk to us about different bugs. The people in the group got to see some different species after. My Favorite things he talked about was the sloth and how slow it goes and how it goes so slowly down the trees to go toilet and then slowly back up and how he went overseas and he saw some blue Butterflys at the top of some tall trees but the camera couldnt reach the bird so then he went into the village and asked every one how can you get those birds down the tree then one of the villagers said you have to be like the bird, So he went and to find something blue and in the end he painted himself blue and then the birds came down to see what that blue thing was and then they got some good pictures.
